STARBASE Louisiana Teacher Receives Award

At a special luncheon held by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, The Bossier Innovates Foundation recently honored a local teacher with the 2018 Excellence in Education & Innovation Award. This year’s recipient was Richard Sco

tt, who serves as an instructional leader and technology coordinator at STARBASE Louisiana. The event, focusing on “cultivating generation cyber” was sponsored by Bossier Parish Community College, Barksdale Federal Credit Union, Louisiana Tech University, and Citizens National Bank.

Mr. Scott was nominated for his contribution to the STARBASE Louisiana program including setting up a network storage system with custom configuration for digital curriculum materials, writing an original coding lesson, and integrating computer simulations, data analysis, and electronic portfolios for high schools students participating in the STARBASE 2.0 rocketry program.

The event featured Kevin Nolten, member of the Workforce Development, Education and Public Outreach Committee of the Louisiana Cyber Commission and NICERC Director of Academic Outreach, who touted Louisiana’s spot in the cyber landscape. According to Nolten, Louisiana is on the map for cultivating talent and helping build a workforce pipeline for cyber.

STARBASE Louisiana, longstanding partner of Bossier Parish and Caddo Parish Schools, has a long history of contributing to that pipeline. Richard Scott serves dual duty as fifth-grade program instructor and high school rocketry instructor/coach.
